Score!!

Can I just say I now love Wal-Mart after Christmas sales?
So a few nights ago I had to make a quick trip to Wal-mart to get a few things. As I was over by the Christmas stuff I figured I'd have a little look just to see what I might find. I got so much inspiration from blogland this year on holiday decorating and I do have a project in mind to try for next year. I first wanted to check on ornaments, I saw an awesome ornament wreath that matched my tree perfectly but for the life of me I can't remember where I saw it now or I would link.. So I found some ornaments for 50% off that I can use. Great!
*update* I found the wreath post, Yay! I have now bookmarked it so I can remember it next year.
Here it is. At Just Between Friends

Isn't that gorgeous??

But then on a bottom shelf I noticed a couple clear trash bags.. Hmm.. I picked them up, on the outside was a piece of paper with "Assorted Garland $1.00" written on it.. I'm not big on garland and tinsel but I did see some wire ribbon in there that I could use.. So I threw both bags into the cart. Almost put them back but figured I could find something to use it for if not I'll freecycle it next year..

So what all was in these bags??
Take a look at this...

Assorted lengths of wire ribbon, I would guess it's at least 50 feet altogether.. The aqua and silver will definately be used next year.

Varying lengths of tinsel garland, mostly in silver which is one of the colors I use. Last year I had the dark blue and silver theme, too bad I didn't have this then..

Some wire ribbon bows..

Even some window clings..

All of that for $2! Can you believe it? Score!!

Plus I got a new tree for next year on sale for $19! We needed a new tree anyways as some of the lights weren't working on ours. And I'm glad I got it too, when I took ours down yesterday, I saw where our dog had chewed through the cord!!
But I freecycled it and the lady that got it said that wasn't a concern, it was going to be for her office so they didn't need the lights on it.

I love freecycling, even if we don't have much, just knowing I can help someone else with something I have that I'm not using is a great feeling!!

Fancied up toy box

Just a quick project today.
So little Mr. K got a few toys for Christmas this year, as any parent knows, with toys comes the need to have them put somewhere instead of scattered across the floor..
So I had them temporarily stored in a cardboard box left over from Christmas.
I took that box and simply covered it with paper to make it look a little better.

Yes this is part Christmas paper, but I'm a big believer in using what I have on hand, and what I had on hand was a paper gift bag that I cut up and a small amount of polka dot wrapping paper.

I wasn't too concerned with the inside, as it won't show..

A nice clean bottom..

I even folded down the edges like in sewing for a nice clean edge..

Maybe if I find some cute paper on sale sometime I may recover it to something less seasonal.. Or I may just leave it as it, I'm sure my 6 month old isn't too concerned with the decor of his toybox!

Total cost: a big whopping ZERO!! I used paper, tape, scissors and a cardboard box!
Hope everyone has a great day today!

My wreath..

So I finally have my wreath completed and on display.. Yeah I know I'm cutting it close and that Christmas is less than a week away...

Cost me a total of $3 at Dollar Tree for the ribbon, snowflakes and star thing. Everything thing else I had on hand and the wreath form was given to me by my mom. Thank you Momma! I looked everywhere for one, but none of the stores around here carried them..

But it did take me while to put together.. Why? you might be asking..
Because of this..

Each one of these had to be hot glued onto the form... Yes those are plastic BBs from my son's old airsoft pellet gun..

After that it was just a matter of spray painting then positioning everything else the way I liked.

So what do ya think?

Quick little presto chango!

Okay so I've had this adorable little outfit for some time now, but Mr. K has outgrown it. Or so I thought..
A cute little Winnie the Pooh one piece.
For one, you must know I have a love affair with little sweaters on babies, they are sofreakincute!
Anyways this outfit was way too short for K, but as I got to looking at it, I realized the top would still fit him, YAY!! just the pants were too short..
What do I do???
Break out my favorite and most used craft tool....
My seamripper!! Yes you read that right, my seamripper is my most used tool...

The sweater was already finished on the bottom so I just took out the stitch holding it to the pants...
Easy-peasy...

For the pants all I needed to do was extend them a little and add a waistband..
Break out a little brown knit and elastic and here ya go!

I wish I could get a pic of K wearing it, but my little man knows what a camera is already and he doesn't like them... Maybe when he naps I can get a good decent pic...

Thanks for looking!!

Personalized Hand Warmers

So I decided to make the kids their own hand warmers as part of a somewhat homemade Christmas.
Awhile back I got a great deal on this pre-quilted Chrastmas fabric.
One side was flowery..
The other was just holly leaves..

No tutorial as these are pretty simple to make. I cut to desired size, folded in half, stitched up two sides then filled and stitched all around..

The boys get the leaves.

And flowers for miss girlie-girl..
But I did want to add a little somethin somethin to them. To prevent any arguing about whose warmer is whose, I added a little patch with each kids' initial embroidered on it. I also added a handle so we don't have any hot potato issues if they are warmed up too much...

As much as my kids all want PS3s and Xboxes (which they are NOT getting) I think they will like these also..

I'm linking up...
